Building a deck off of the back of your home gives you the great advantage of additional outdoor living space and entertaining space. A deck is a great place to grill for the family, have a 4th of July gathering or simply read a book.
We met with our customers at the end of the summer to discuss his deck project. As you can see from the before picture, they simply had a set of concrete steps leading from his slider into their back yard. There was no landing on the set of steps which made it an awkward transition stepping out of the slider. As a matter of fact, they avoided using that door. The customer did not only want a safer transition from house to yard, but was looking for an outdoor living space to entertain and relax.
At the initial meeting, it was decided that the deck would measure 12’ by 16’ deck which would serve the family needs. The deck was built out of cedar which is durable, strong and low maintenance. The railing around the deck is a white traditional vinyl railing, chosen to complement the white trim of the house. The vinyl railing is composed of posts with both base trim and post caps all around the deck which gives the railing system a more substantial look. Since the deck was elevated, cedar lattice was chosen to skirt the deck to keep out unwanted “guests”.
The customer is thrilled with the end results. The step out the sliding patio door is now much safer and they look forward to going out the slider door. They now have a completed outdoor space to gather and make new memories. They are looking forward to this coming summer to add landscaping around the skirting and add deck lighting too.
